Divetech had the official grand opening of it's new shop at Lighthouse Point Saturday, June 27th, with over 500 people coming out to dive or partake of tours, food, drinks, music and a Champagne Toast to christen the new dive shop. Chuck and Barrie of Sea 'N B entertained the crowd, KISS 106.1 did a remote live radio broadcast , Sotheby's International Real Estate provided tours of the new green condos and Seven Fathom's Rum had a rum tasting all afternoon. Friends, family, divers, media and the crew & staff had a welcome break for the afternoon.  Read Press Release

Green Business Quarterly, in an article by John Hendel featured Lighthouse Point in a 2-page spread in the Spring edition. Excerpt from David Hudnall, Managing Editor in the Spring edition... The solid wood interiors are taking shape, Condo #6 is shown to the left in a rich golden oak finish. The walls are complimented by custom ceiling cutouts surrounded by concealed LED rope lights that create a pleasant glow for evening mood lighting.

There's good news on the horizon for purchasers! As a part of an economic stimulus plan the Cayman Gov't is introducing, stamp duty on home purchases will be reduced from 6% to 5%, saving you 1% on your closing costs! This is a temporary concession, valid through October 1/09.  Read entire article "The plan also reduces stamp duty paid on property purchases by non–Caymanians in all other areas of the island [except 7-mile beach] from six per cent to five per cent." For Caymanians looking to buy property in other parts of the island, the rate will be cut from four per cent to three per cent."

The stone exterior is being applied and looking wonderful - no maintenance too! More photos are on the photo page. The second floor is complete and the third floor has started, with carpenters starting to move into the second floor to installed the solid wood interiors.

Feb 2009 - Salt Cafe starts to come to life! The menu is being designed with fresh bagels, panini and flatbread's, in-season fresh fruit juices, Espresso style coffees, daily homemade soups and a large variety of 'Salt House Specialties' to suit any pallet. Located ground floor on the ocean with a large outdoor seating area, the Salt Cafe will provide breakfast through sunset delights, of course in an environmentally responsible manner!

 

 


Feb 2009 - The canon and anchor (circa 1800) have been installed on the iron shore, adding to the authentic maritime look of Lighthouse Point.

 

 

 

 


 

Feb 2009 - Beautiful, stylish and classy are words that come to mind for the new signage at Lighthouse Point. Each condo will have a custom hand crafted Lighthouse Logo for your address sign. The signs are hand painted in gold and copper accents for an original classic look. The road sign to the property is being redone also to a quality sign to identify your new home to visitors and guests.

 

 

 


Feb 2009 - Lighthouse Point will be featured in the Feb 2009 edition of Budget Travel Magazine, which provides further exposure for owners wishing to place their condo in the rental pool.

 

 

 

 

 

 


Jan 2009 - "English Pub Old Brick Original" from Robinson Brick Company has been selected to finish the interior walls in the dive shop and bistro, providing a 'green' authentic and aged look in keeping with the overall decor of Lighthouse Point.

 

 

 


Jan 2009 - Caribbean Utility Company approves new Consumer Owned Renewable Tariff (CORE") which allows customers in Grand Cayman to connect renewable energy systems (Lighthouse Point's Skystream 3.7 wind generator) to CUC's distribution system to reduce their monthly electrical bills. Jan 2009 - The second floor exterior is complete with the 3rd floor starting late January. A recent valuation was completed by Andrews Key Property Consultants showing that the project is well on target for value and completion.

Oct 2008 - The walls for condo #1, Divetech's dive shop and the Bistro are all up, all footers and 20" columns are complete. Lighthouse Point building is moving along at a steady pace, with up to 40 trade people on the job site daily.

 Sept 2008 - Lighthouse Point applies for a Wind Generator, to help offset the costs of any electrical usage for air conditioners that are not supported by solar power. It is anticipated that at even only 50% usage, the Skystream Wind Generator will create $5000. in credits per year that owners will be given to offset operating costs in the condos. The second hearing is scheduled for Oct 8 with the Central Planning Authority, seeking approval on the application.

Aug 2008 - Building Permit ("Red Tag") is approved! We're moving out of the ground!

July 2008 - The rainwater collection cistern is installed, which will be used for outdoor patio and building washing, rinse tanks and car washes. One more environmental feature that will keep owners costs low with no water bills for outdoor cleaning use.

June 2008 - NOW you are going to be excited!

Okay, well maybe not, but the environmentally friendly sewage treatment plant is installed, and while we all never think of this, the selection is one to note as being environmentally friendly! Plus, the system has been designed for zero discharge with the water recycled for landscaping - no cost to the owners for landscaping water!

The Jet wastewater treatment plant is the cleaner, lower-odor, lower-maintenance alternative to traditional septic systems. The Jet plant uses our patented Biologically Accelerated Treatment (BAT®) process to transform wastewater into colorless, odorless, environmentally-friendly effluent, cleaner than most city plants. It has only one moving part, no complicated electronics to fail and no filters to change, resulting in less maintenance and years of trouble free operation .


June 2008 - activity is bursting at Lighthouse Point, with the driveways, sidewalks and Dumpster all being completed. The dock was finished, built like a fortress and ready for giant strides for divers:)

May 2008 - Lighthouse Point breaks ground! with the storm water management system completed and the ground infrastructure, driveway, sidewalks, cistern, sewage treatment plant all being worked on in preparation for the foundation and building. Electrical power and city water are now feeding the property.


Apr 2008 - Construction of the dock is beginning - about a month and the dock will be complete for additional access to Lighthouse Point for divers, snorklers and boats.


Apr 2008 - Negotiations have started on a high quality restaurateur to operate the on-site restaurant at Lighthouse Point.


Apr 2008 - The Cayman Islands Government and the local electrical provider - CUC - announced that a new long term contract has been signed  that includes provisions for strongly encouraging renewable energy sources and net metering (grid tie-in), amongst other matters.

Mar 2008 - Lighthouse Point registers as a member of the US Green Building Council, preparing to submit the project for LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System™ .

 


Mar 2008 - Central Planning Approval is granted to proceed with the development of Lighthouse Point. The individual plans for mechanical, electrical, structural, landscaping and the like are being reviewed now, with the goal of receiving our 'red tag' so that building will commence!


Mar 2008 - Condo #7 is sold! 


Mar 2008 - Lighthouse Point offers Fractional Ownership, with legal council looking after the Company Incorporation, Registration and share structure to offer fractional owners the safety and security of ownership.


Feb 2008 - Divetech pursues initiative with the National Museum for signage and protection of the Historic  Marine Archeological site #GC033 to preserve the artifacts located just off Lighthouse Point . Signage is being created to let divers and snorklers know that this is an Historic reserve, protected and that all artifacts should be left untouched for future visitors to enjoy.


Jan 2008 - Lighthouse Point has a street address, approved by the Street  Committee.

Jan 2008 - Condo #4 is sold!


Jan 2008 - Rental companies that administer and market short and long term rental properties are looking at Lighthouse Point for future rental opportunities for owners that are not in Cayman year round.


Jan 2008 - Financing for the entire project is approved by First Caribbean International Bank (Cayman) Ltd.

Nov 2007 - Central Planning Authority - Clearing permit approved. Lighthouse Point grounds are cleared, leaving the natural state of the ironshore intact on all boundaries and natural, rustic vegetation that loves salt breezes!

 

                                        

                                      

                                 


Nov 2007 - The Government issued Coastal Works License is approved to construct the 40 foot dock at Lighthouse Point. Due to potential, occasional winter storms (Nor Wester's) in the winter, dock construction will be started in May 2008 to mitigate any potential environmental damage.


 

Nov 2007 - Divetech opens the newest shore diving location in Grand Cayman at Lighthouse Point.  The reef is pristine with an abundance of marine life, sponges and corals. The wall is filled with cuts and swim through's with dramatic huge barrel sponges scattered along the edge of the wall.

 


Sept 2007 - We discover that this dive/snorkel dive site is designated at an archeological site GC #033, with artifacts dating back to the early to mid 1800's. This research was conducted by Peggy Leshikar-Denton, a renown marine archeologist in Grand Cayman.


Aug 2007 - The Cayman Islands Port Authority grants permission for Divetech to relocate it's dive down markers to the new dive site at Lighthouse Point and this work was completed.


July 2007 - Condo #9 is sold!


July  2007 - Divetech purchases the Dive shop at Lighthouse Point to open a new shore and boat access location for owners of Lighthouse Point condos, as well as access for the general public.


June 2007: Jay and Nancy Easterbrook purchase the property at Block 1E Parcel 15 WB to create the new home of Lighthouse Point and Divetech's shore diving site.
